The German newspaper “Agrar Heute” now wrote an article about arguments why we should use wood from the ash-tree rather than tropical African or Southern American wood:
>It’s not true that wood from the ash-tree is harder to cut or carve than most other woods. Fresh wood from the ash-tree can be split or carved easily.
>Wood from the ash-tree is definitely one of the better woods to be used for your fireplace. It causes less sparks than most other sources of wood and it makes beautiful flames.
>All kinds of beetles that use the ash-tree only focus on its bark. Plus the EU has very strict controls. Thus chances are low that you end up with wood that houses some wooden-furniture-eating-maggots.
>There is a lot of prejudice against the ash-tree. Not many people would buy this wood. Thus traders sell it very cheaply.

The following website belongs to a great organisation. You definetly should visit it: “http://www.rainforestfoundationuk.org/index”. They help to protect rainforests from everywhere and even show you how to get involved.

Actually this isn’t concerning the rainforest, but at least a part of African nature: In Kenya a lot of people protest at the moment. They are against the planned construction of a building in the famous natural preserve of this country.

As far as I know these two aren’t mountain gorillas, but I just wanted to post it somewhere: The number of mountain gorillas living in Congo, Rwanda and Uganda has increased. They remain endangered though.

Posting interesting, but shocking information about every single country this rainforest belongs to would take too much time and space, plus you already know about the status of most African countries, so I’m just posting the most remarkable facts about one country, namely Angola:
-Not even half of the births in this country get observed, making a birth a serious, medical risk for women.
-In urban areas only 18% of the population have access to good sanitations.
-The average life expectency of Angola’s citizens is 47 years.
-Only 2% of this country’s population is older than 64.

Good news for these two gorillas: I’ve heard of a new law of the European Union that finally puts an end to using some species of monkeys for animal experiments.
