The informative show “odysso” on the German TV-channel “SWR” now had an episode about drinking alcohol during pregnancy. At first they interviewed some ladies they randomly picked on the street. Sadly all of them reported that they knew someone who had been drunk during her pregnancy. One even said she knew a doctor who had told her that small amounts of alcohol were okay during pregnancy. And one even said we should leave a pregnant lady her free will and let her decide whether or not she wanted to take that risk. Thus they interviewed Dr. Kramer who is specialized on this topic and even works for a doctors’ association. She says that: >each year about 10.000 German children get drunk before they even are born…and yes, a foetus or an embryo can get drunk, too, but needs about 10 times as long as an adult until being sober again, >after realizing that something must be wrong about the brain functions of their newborn many women are too ashamed to go to the doctor as they feel that this is a direct result of drinking during pregnancy, >some women however go straight to the doc with their baby, but he doubts that this could be a result of alcohol and diagnoses the baby as being either autistic, hyper active or as having psychological issues, >there may be some women who got drunk a lot during pregnancy and still gave birth to a healthy child, but this doesn’t prove anything as the damage done to the unborn depends on many factors, like genetics, health of the mother’s liver, health of the unborn etc., >statistics seem to prove that drug-addicted women are more likely to have a healthy child than alcoholic women, >in extreme cases alcohol during pregnancy even affects the baby’s outward appearance. For example the baby could be born with extremely slim arms and leggs, a very small head, small lips and even wrinkles.

“Domradio” says that in Ingelheim in Baden-Wuerttemberg in Germany a gentleman now was hit by a car by accident. The alcoholized car-driver then fled the scene, also called hit and run. Too wounded to get up he laid on the pavement for a very long time until finally someone called the ambulance. However he wasn’t the first one to notice the wounded man, but everyone passing by before him just walked by and ignored the pathetic scene.
