Dave:  You saw Narnia the other day, didn’t you?

Taylor:  Yes, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Dave:  Yeah. So, where does it start? What happens?

Taylor:  Well, it starts in, ah, the early stages of World War II.

Dave:  Okay.

Taylor:  London is being bombed.

Dave:  Okay.

Taylor:  The mother of, um, four children sends her children away to go live with a family friend, a professor.

Dave:  Right. He’s like…

Taylor:  Right.

Dave:  ..the reclusive scholar.

Taylor:  And he lives out in the hills, and they enter into the house, they’re not allowed to touch anything, you know. They find this magic passageway through a, ah, a wardrobe.

Dave:  Okay, and that brings them into the magical world of…

Taylor:  Narnia.

Dave:  Well, there you go. And then that’s where?

Taylor:  That’s where all the fun happens. You’ve got a talking, walking lion, who makes sacrifices. You’ve got an evil white witch who is bent on tempting the children and turning them against each other.

Dave:  I remember the evil white witch from the books.

Taylor:  Yes, and it’s fantastic.

Discussion

Much of the hype about the movie has focused on its Christian themes of sacrifice, redemption and resurrection. The author, C.S. Lewis, was a famous scholar and Christian convert, though he always said that he did not write the books in order to preach Christianity to children.

Have you seen the movie or read the books? What are your thoughts?

When I was an elementary school girl, I read "The Lion and The Witch" at my school library. As I grew up, I forgot  the detailes of the story ,but  remebered that how seriously I tried to hide myself in the wardrobe in my parent's room  to  find the fantasy world .  Time goes, I became  an adult, one of my English teacher lent me her book to encourage my studying English. It was also "The Lion and The Witch."   It was very touching to me this time  and I wept and wept when I came to the scene  the lion  was killed.
