One of the biggest party days of the year is next weekend. It’s the day where we celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of a new one.
For many, this week is all about planning what they will be doing next weekend. Sometimes, we ask our friends what they will be doing to get some ideas, like John.

John:  You have any plans for New Year’s this year, Derek?

Derek:  Yeah. I was thinking about going to New York.

John:  Oh, cool. What’s out there?

Derek:  Well, there’s always that, uh, big crowd in Times Square.

John:  Oh. And you can watch the apple drop.

Derek:  Yeah. I’ve always wanted to see that in person.

John:  Yeah. But it seems like the crowds will be so packed there. Don’t like a hundred thousand people go there to watch that?

Derek:  Yeah. Um, my sister-in-law only lives a few blocks away, so, probably won’t have a problem.

John:  Oh, that’s nice. So, it’ll just be a big party in the streets, right?

Derek:  Exactly. It’s what New York is for, right.

John:  Well, I’ll be looking for you on TV.

Derek:  OK. I’ll be sure to wave to the cameras.

John:  Yeah. Take your shirt off or something so I can see you better.

Derek:  Kay. I’ll wear an orange one. I’ll wave it around.

Discussion

Every year, you can see this spectacle on television – Times Square, the big apple, the crowds, Dick Clark. We all wonder what it would be like to go there once.
Have you ever thought about going to NYC for New Year’s? What are you planning on doing for the big night?
