You find the perfect coffee shop. It sells amazing coffee and baked goods. If you want to ask your friends to come check it out at the same time, ask them if they want to meet up. Hang out, get together, go out, join up, meet up… it’s all the same. They’re all used for bringing people together.

That said, meet up is mostly used for social events with friends or family. You might meet up with friends to see a movie, or meet up with your sister to buy a birthday present for your mom. You would not, however, meet up with your teacher to talk about your grade in class, or meet up with your dentist to have your teeth cleaned! To meet up is to do something casual and relaxed.

Who does Rafael want to meet up with? You can find out by reading this English lesson.

3. Watch - Watch the video without reading the dialog.

Jeff:  Hey! Knock, knock.

Rafael:  Hey, Jeff. What’s going on, man?

Jeff:  Hey, how’s it going?

Rafael:  Not too bad.

Jeff:  I was just coming out for some coffee. I thought I’d stop by and help you guys clean up.

Rafael:  That’s really nice of you.

Jeff:  You’ve got a little action going on here.

Rafael:  Yeah, you know, Lily’s out getting some doughnuts. But she should be back soon, so make yourself at home.

Jeff:  Cool. It was a pretty fun party last night. What happened after I left?

Rafael:  Basically everyone went to bed. Amanda fell asleep on the sofa. She just left a little while ago.

Jeff:  It’s too bad Mason wasn’t here. I think you’d really like him.

Rafael:  Do you guys meet up a lot outside of work?

Jeff:  Not really. Mason and Amanda are married. Marni’s married, too. Pretty much everyone. Lily and I are the only single people in the office, so…

Rafael:  Right.

Jeff:  I don’t know, man. It seems like most of my friends are married. I can’t really get anyone to do anything without like a week’s notice. You know?

Rafael:  I hear you, man. Lily’s totally awesome, and I love hanging out with her, but she’s basically my only friend right now, and I spend a lot of time at home.

Jeff:  Really? What kind of stuff are you into?

Rafael:  There’s yoga.

Jeff:  Yoga. Yeah, Alexis keeps trying to get me to go to yoga. I don’t really know if it’s my thing, though. Anything else?

Rafael:  I like to go indoor rock climbing sometimes.

Jeff:  Oh, cool. Another date I was on, we went and did that.

Rafael:  Oh, you know what? I really love kung fu movies.

Jeff:  No way, man. I love kung fu. Love it.

Rafael:  Dude, there’s this Kung Fu Film Festival coming up.

Jeff:  That’s right.

Rafael:  Do you want to tag along?

Jeff:  I’m down.

Rafael:  That’d be so sweet. I’ll get your number from Lily and I’ll text you.

Jeff:  Yeah, yeah. Let’s definitely meet up.

Lily:  Well hi, Jeff.

Jeff:  What’s up?

Lily:  What are you doing here?

Jeff:  I just stopped by to help clean up. Hey, you know, Rafael? Great roommate you have there. Good guy.

Lily:  He’s pretty cool, right? Well, I guess I’ll see you at work.

Jeff:  See you guys later.

Lily:  Toodles. You’ll have to eat this. There were no doughnuts.

Jeff has stopped by to help Lily and Rafael clean up after the New Year’s Eve party. He and Rafael chat about Lily’s friends from work. Rafael wants to know if they all meet up a lot to do things together, but Jeff says that because Amanda, Mason and Marni are all married, it doesn’t happen very often.

Rafael admits that because he’s new in town, he doesn’t have any friends except for Lily. Jeff realizes that maybe he and Rafael can hang out, so he asks Rafael what he likes to do. Nothing seems right to Jeff until he hears the words “kung fu.” That’s it! They make plans to see some kung fu movies. Maybe Rafael has a new friend after all.

What do you and your friends do when you meet up? Do you like to meet up in groups, or do you prefer to meet up with one or two people?

Well. Old High school guys, my home town marketing friends as well as my lovely B.Sc. & M.Sc. classmates and now my friendly coworkers make me to spend plenty time with them. Having lots of friends in various cities also permeates me to meet up with them most of the time when i’m on my way to there. Actually we manage our time to get together and have a lot of fun things as well as flipping through our past wonderful diaries. Indeed, we always go to restaurants, coffee shops, trips and camping out are bunch of our activities when we meet up.

But these days I really prefer to meet up with my friends from other countries bcz it seems that i will be out of my country forever.

I could say i am that kind of girl who likes hanging out, meet up with my friends or join up a group… i just enjoy to meet new cultures, new people and to learn something everyday… maybe going out to for a coffee and have a good talk. I don´t enjoy being alone at home the all day.

When I was in High School, I was used to meet up with a lot of friends every day! However, when the senior year finished, most of them moved to another city to study and/or work. Nowadays, I enjoy staying at home watching a good movie, talking to new friends on Skype, and having a good time with my family.
But I’m pretty sure that when we have the chance to meet up again, we will! Besides, we have a lot of catching up to do, and I miss them sooooo much! There are no words to describe how much fun we had together… :)

In a time where  bonding it is mostly fueled to the use of internet chat rooms ,meeting up with friends , sharing stories, and  a good laugh  ,having eye-contact  at the same time ,it is a pleasure that  none  chat room can  make up for . I prefer to meet up  with as many friends as I can, everyone has an story to share with. ... usually , we split up the tab.

I’m part of a football (soccer) team and we meet up a lot outside of training or matches and I love it. We get along very well with each other and there is a very good atmosphere in the team. We also have a Whatsapp group chat where we chat with each other and share funny pictures and stories. Mostly we meet up at friday’s or saturday’s nights in a bar because then almost everybody has time and our coach also join us sometimes. I have to say that I’ve not always that much time for hanging out with some friends because of school and sports, so it’s cool that most of my friends are also my classmates, in this way I can keep in contact with them during the whole school day.
