Patience is a virtue… but no one likes waiting for too long! When you’re excited about something, you probably have difficulty waiting for it to happen. You don’t want to sit around. You want things to get rolling right away. If a delay does happen, you might find yourself getting impatient. You might tell yourself that it’s time to hurry up and get this show on the road!
The expression “get this show on the road” means to begin an activity or a trip. When we are eager to start something, we often say, “Let’s get this show on the road!” You can get the show on the road by piling into a car or boarding a plane for an exciting vacation. You can also get the show on the road by starting a new project. You can even get the show on the road when you kick off a party or fun event. Whatever new activity you begin, it will be a relief when the waiting is finally over!

Sheila: I’m not only the star, I’m also helping out by being the assistant today, so let’s go, people. Places, everyone!
Kelsey: Wait! What are we doing?
Sheila: Good question.
Director: Well, OK, let’s see here… We have Kelsey on the bench, playing the guitar.
Sheila: Kelsey!
Kelsey: I’m right here.
Sheila: Bench.
Kelsey: OK.
Director: Kelsey plays guitar, camera pans to Andy and Sheila.
Sheila: Andy! Sheila! Oh, that’s me!
Director: OK. When I say action, Musician, you start playing.
Kelsey: I’m Kelsey.
Director: Wonderful. The camera will pan… let’s see here… from Dominique and… and…
Sheila: Andy.
Director: Right. Where you guys are talking about important papers and… looks like… feeling a lot of stress. You continue until the musician…
Kelsey: Kelsey.
Director: Kelsey walks past, puts the briefcase in the suitcase, and follows her. And then… OK… Happy? Happy. Alright! Let’s run rehearsal! ANNNNNNNND… Not until I say action, dear.
Kelsey: Sorry, I just feel ready!
Director: OK, great. I like your style, let’s get this show on the road! Let’s skip rehearsal. Let’s just run this thing!
Andy_H: But when she walks by….
Director: ROLL SOUND!
Andy_H: OK.
Sheila: Shhh.
Camera Assistant: Travelbug, Scene 1, take one.
Director: ANNNNND ACTION!

The director is excited to start filming the commercial. In fact, he is so excited that he forgets to give directions to the cast! Everyone is confused about what they are doing until the director explains. He wants Kelsey to be on the bench, playing guitar. The camera will pan to Sheila and Andy. They need to act like they are very stressed out. After Kelsey walks past them, Andy and Sheila should look up and follow her. Now, they are happy!
Kelsey is ready to get this show on the road. She starts playing the guitar. The director wanted her to wait until he said action, but he decides that he likes her style. They can skip rehearsal and film right now. Everyone gets in their places, and the crew starts filming take one of the Travel Bug commercial.
Are you a patient person? Would you like to direct a movie?
